King David Schools

JEWISH LEARNING AT KING DAVID

Since 1948, our schools, under the auspices of the South African Board of Jewish Education (SABJE) have been dedicated to providing excellent Jewish education and serving as a primary Jewish community educational organisation.

At King David Schools, we understand that our Jewish roots define us and guide us in all our decisions. We proudly run our schools along traditional Orthodox lines, while welcoming students from all Jewish backgrounds.

As the Jewish Life & Education Division at King David Schools, our mission is to instil a love, passion, and knowledge for Torah and Israel in our students, both through formal and informal methods. Our Jewish Life and Education team collaborates across our formal, informal, and parent engagement divisions to offer positive Jewish experiences and knowledge to our students and parents. Through Hebrew, Jewish Studies, Jewish History, Torah learning, and Tefillah, we equip our students with the tools and knowledge to cultivate their Jewish identity.

As an organization, we are committed to the State of Israel, her continued success, legitimacy, and the vital role she plays in the lives of Jews in the diaspora. While individuals may hold different political ideologies, King David Schools instils in our students a love and unwavering support of the State. Join us in our commitment to Jewish education, culture, and identity at King David Schools.

Head of Jewish Life and Education

DIJE

Through the observance of the Chagim, commemorations and celebrations, community outreach projects and shabbatonim run by the Department of informal Jewish Education (DIJE), our learners develop a love and deep-rooted passion for Judaism that transcends the classroom and inspires them long after leaving our hallways.

Parent Engagement

King David Schools sees our parents as partners in our children’s Jewish education and experiences. For this reason, we have a unique offering in our Parent Engagement Division. This team brings educational and inspirational experiences to our parent body, through trips to Poland, Momentum trips for mothers to Israel, trips to Israel for fathers, Shiurim, Guest speakers, and Friday night Shabbat experiences across different shuls within our Johannesburg community.

PJ Library

Another exiting project to inspire Jewish learning is the PJ Library programme which is operational within all King David Pre-Primary and Junior Primary Schools. Every month our students receive a free, brand-new book themed with Jewish ideas and concepts. At its core, this is a Jewish engagement and literacy programme aimed at Jewish families with young children and created with the intention of the next generation of Jewish children learning through Jewish bedtime stories.
